Alternative rock duo Mavourneen is formed by Hans Gustav Björklund Moulvad (vocals + guitar) & Benedicte Pierleoni-Nielsen (drums)

 

After the 2020 release of the EP 'Carnivore Sky', which was recorded in Sonic Youth's studio in New York in a collaboration with Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and more, Mavourneen recently put the finishing touches to their first full-length album 'Submassive', which was produced and mixed by Nis Bysted (Iceage, Liss, First Hate, Baby In Vain).
 

The album is released in the spring 2023 and consists of songs centering on the feeling of freedom, powerlessness and on the submissive state in all its forms and perspectives  —  with a sound of a modern and avant-garde answer to today's rock music.

The word 'submassive' was constructed to describe the feeling of finding freedom within submission and a lack of choices. -Like diving deep below the surface of the ocean, only to find yourself floating high above the depths of the abyss. The album was written around this paradoxical feeling of finding freedom in the imposed limitations.

 

With only two people on stage, Mavourneen's live performances unfold in a truly grandiose and experimental wall-of-sound as well as a unique intensity, mixed with Hans Gustav's powerful yet intimate vocal in a setting of raw, poetic lyrics.
